7 Tips for Your First Soundbath Meditation

Wondering what to expect for your first Soundbath Meditation Experience?

If you’re new to soundbath meditation, or meditation, it’s helpful to get a sense of how to create an experience that will motivate you to continue practicing.

Be Open.

Please know that soundbaths are as unique as the individual who is offering them. Overall, there is no one way to have a soundbath. Be open to trying new practices and/or facilitators and find out a few different techniques that work for you.

Comfort, First.

Expect to sit and/or lie in a comfortable position for anywhere from 30-60 minutes. It is not necessary to sit on the floor or lie flat on your back.

Keep it Light.

Consider consuming lighter food & drink 24 hours prior to your soundbath experience and allowing at least 2-4 hours of space after your last meal before joining practice.

Use Your Natural Tools.

The power of your conscious attention and breathing will help you have a more meaningful experience. Do not worry about messing up, because you simply can not. Encourage yourself to clear your mind and return to your breath and practice.

Create Space.

Allow some time (15-20 min) before your soundbath, especially if traveling, to ensure timely arrival and check-in. Following you soundbath, give your a few extra minutes after to ground and process as necessary.

Stay Hydrated.

As the sound vibrations assist us in releasing toxins from our bodies and minds, you may notice the signs of dehydration. We suggest staying hydrated before and after your soundbath experience.

Honor Your Experience.

Allow yourself the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate your own individual sensory experience. Whether you do or do not experience particular effects of a soundbath does not equate a “good” or “bad” practice on your part. Consider each practice the opportunity to invite rest + renewal into your day.

You should consult your physician if you have concerns regarding any contraindications of sound and music on any of your existing medical conditions.
